Mesothelioma Cancer


MESOTHELIOMA CANCER | REVIEW



Mesothelioma is a cancer type involving mesothelial tissue of body organs usually lungs or abdominal. This is usually happened because of asbestos exposure. However, there are 30-50% patients without any history of asbestos exposure. People with a little doses exposure of asbestos, but it has been going about one or two months, they have risk to get mesothelioma cancer. The peole who wash clothes of asbestos exposed people are at risk, too. People with asbestos exposure could develop mesothelioma after 50 years exposure.
People in the occupations such as insulator, boilermakers. Construction job in shipyard, etc are at risk of contracting asbestos disease.

There are 2 common types of mesothelioma
  1. Pleural mesothelioma
  2. Peritoneal mesothelioma

The survival time for patients with diffuse malignant mesothelioma is from 4 to 24 months or 4 month – 2 years, from the observance of the symptoms. As mesothelioma is difficult to diagnosed.

The chance of recovery for the patients are depend on age of the patients, size and location of the cancer, also the treatment response.

Presently , the treatment options for mesothelioma are
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Surgery and Photodynamic therapy

And good news is provitamin A or beta-carotene has some evidence that it may decrease the risk of mesothelioma.
